Fifth generation farmers Andrew and Tracey Powdrell need little convincing to continue their support of the East Coast Farming Expo.

“It’s local, interesting and inspiring,” say the couple. “The Expo is relevant to all people in the rural industry as it covers the full sector umbrella. Personal and professional development is so important and as farmers this can sometimes be overlooked as it is so easy to get caught up in your farming operation leaving no time to work on it.”

The Powdrells own Turiroa Stud where they run an angus and terminal ram stud, hosting annual on-farm sales. Each year they sell around 85 angus two-year-old and yearling bulls, and up to 170 terminal rams. They’ve also exported semen and embryos offshore.

“We have been involved from day one and continue to get behind it and support it as best we can. We feel extremely lucky to have an event of this calibre in Wairoa.”

Mr Powdrell says the schedule of the Expo ensures there is always plenty going on. “In between speakers you can check out the site holders where there is always something new to find out about. We really enjoy the Muster Evening and teams’ challenges.”

The Expo provided a “great” day or two off the farm to network, learn and connect with others within the industry.

“The speakers are great and every year they have such a great line-up of industry leaders. We are extremely lucky to get the opportunity to listen to them in person.”

They encourage everyone to get along and support the Expo. “We are extremely privileged to have an event like this and anyone within our agricultural sector would benefit from getting off farm and seeing what is on offer – whether you are a young shepherd just starting out or a farmer with 40 years under your belt, there is something there for you.”
